In 2006 I trained to be a primary school teacher but started my career in a nursery. It was here that I first came into contact with children who had a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. I learnt very quickly that in order for these children to thrive, a very different environment and approach to their learning was required. After a few years, I was lucky enough to get a job at a special needs school where approximately 85% of the children were on the spectrum. This school and my role within it has grown over the years. I am continuously extending my knowledge and skills, keeping up to date with new research and interventions.
The reason for wanting to help parents and other adults is a progression of the passion I feel towards helping children live their lives to their full potential. Whether children attend special schools or are in a mainstream setting, the obstacles they have to overcome every day are enormous. I want to help those adults around them to support the children in their lives in the best way they can. Family life can be extremely stressful for all involved, but when parents, carers and teachers understand their children’s strengths and difficulties and what can be done to help them then everyday life can become much more manageable. This isn’t a one size fits all approach, each family’s needs are different as are each child’s. I can help parents and carers find the best solutions for them. You will make real, lasting and effective change to your home and family life and start living that life to the full.
